Cod Fishing

We went cod fishing, jigging , with friends.  It was a lot of fun, we caught 15 fish.  Evie caught one of those and was very excited to get it.  We also saw lots of seagulls and some puffins. We saw some jellyfish too.

Farmsitting Day 3

The hens only gave the one egg yesterday, and Evie checked frequently until I banned her from going near the hens.  I told her that she was stressing them out and they would not lay.  She later was explaining through the fence that they could not hold it or it would hurt their belly and was not good for their body.  This morning she was itching to get out to the henhouse.  There were 3 beautiful eggs waiting to be collected, it was very exciting!  The hen in the picture is Petal, named by Evie when she was just a little chick.  She is special and gets the most attention, not sure if petal likes that, but she does get extra treats. ImageImage

Today we did more fishing and birdwatching.  We saw the nests or the barn swifts that flutter about all day, they stayed very close to us while we were around their barn.  The gold finches were beautiful and Evie saw her first hummingbird, working around the apple blossoms.  Image

The hummingbird is sitting on the branch.

Only one more day and we have to go home, back to the city and work.  Evie is sad about leaving the animals, so am I we will miss them.

Farmsitting Day 2

It was lovely waking up shortly after the sun came up to the sounds of birds, a lot of birds, singing and chirping.  It is much easier getting out of bed out in the country, or at least I find it that way.   Evie also woke up promptly to run to the hen house.

There were no eggs in the nests but there was one in a corner under the roosts, where I could not fit, in she goes to retrieve it.  As you can tell by her face it was a little stinky and she wanted out fast.  But she got a very fresh egg for breakfast.

There was a little quiet time chatting with Lola and some fun time with Tosca.  These dogs are so sweet and they just love Evie.  They like to nudge, lick and snuggle her.  Tosca the grey one doesn’t even mind licking her hair, which we found funny because our dog is very careful not to get her hair in a lick.

After breakfast and a dog walk we were off to the local farmers market to get some treats and local beef for supper.  We had tacos and they were yummy.  I don’t know if it was all of the country air and activity but Evie devoured her supper that night.  After the market it was down to the river for a little practice fishing and frog watching, we even saw a snake in the water!
