In My Kitchen May (and April) 2017

I have missed a couple IMK link ups, and have missed visiting my blogging friends too. Spring is very slow to arrive and my kitchen inspiration has been lacking, almost non-existent.

There hasn’t been too much excitement around here.

If you check out our Instagram @cookswithevie you will have seen what we have been up to.

Here are a few things that have been in our kitchen while we have been AWOL from blogging.

Evie turned 9! This was the at home cake and we had emoji cupcakes at her party with friends.

We made this crepe cake, which I still have to post on the blog, and will do that soon.

We dyed Easter eggs

Made this delicious Thai crunch salad

Lays smile bag

I did post this recipe! It is on the blog.An antipasto snackPan fried gnocchi pomodoroChickpea avocado sandwich with cilantro sprouts We made maple pecan granolaEvie made cupcakes, she is not light handed when it comes to sprinkles!Maybe there was a little more going on in my kitchen than I thought.

In My Kitchen monthly theme is now hosted by Sherry at  So if you would like to know what’s cooking or see some kitchen treasures, head over to Sherry’s blog and check out all the other IMK participants.

Spring is finally here, it took forever, but I have one lonely tulip in the back garden and the rhubarb is up with two small leaves!  That is very exciting.

It has been extremely busy since my last IMK post, we had an 8th birthday party and first Communion along with a few other happenings.  Needless to say not too much in the kitchen this month just surviving!

Here is a little peek:

The annual funfetti cake for the party, you can get the recipe here, Sally has two cookbooks now!

Bags of cotton candy for the carnival birthday party.

After school surprises on her actual birthday.

A couple of deserts from the Italian bakery.

I hope you enjoyed your visit and I hope you come back soon.  If you’d like to write an In My Kitchen post, please do so by the 10th May and send your link to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. Thanks for hosting Maureen!

The Big 5!

Evie has officially turned five. She has been talking about her birthday forever and what to have as her special birthday supper. In the end she chose cheese pizza and sprinkle cake. I made Sally’s funfetti cake ( Check out her website she has a lot of yummy treats, we follow her religiously for recipes and the delicious pictures, Evie has a whole list of what she wants to make from there, most involve sprinkles. Sally loves sprinkles and I am pretty sure that when Evie is an adult she too will still love sprinkles.

The cake turned out great and was even better a day or two after, got a little moister. If I make that cake again, I will definitely do it a day or two ahead of time.

Here is the cake, we covered it nonpareils but left the number 5 un-nonpareiled. Is that even a word?

There are even sprinkles inside the cake, double the sprinkle concentration!

She got her own binoculars for birdwatching, some new books and more of her favourite coloured pencils to add to her collection.

The birthday party with her friends was also a lot of fun. It was at a cooking school and the children, in little chef hats and little aprons made pizza, fruit snacks and decorated cupcakes. Everyone had a great time, it was lots of fun and extremely cute.
